Moyra Somerville
I began training in counselling in 1984 and used a counselling approach in my work as a guidance teacher in secondary schools. Later, I trained and worked with Relate Scotland, becoming formally accredited as a couple counsellor in 1995. Around that time, I began to do private work and subsequently began part-time work with a local authority staff counselling service. Since then, I have worked in voluntary agencies offering couple counselling and alcohol counselling, as well as continuing to work in staff counselling settings, including the NHS. I have also had a private practice throughout and currently work part-time for a GP practice. I offer supervision to other counsellors and have worked in counselling training for several years.
- Certificate in Counselling and Guidance
- Diploma in Guidance
- Advanced Certificate in Couple Counselling
- Certificate in (counselling) Supervision
- Practitioner Certificate in Neuro-linguistic Programming
- UK Registered Independent Practitioner (BACP Accredited)
My approach is integrative - that is, I have trained (and continue to train) in different models and approaches in order to offer as effective a service as possible. I am committed to ongoing professional development and receive regular professional supervision.
Currently, I work from my counselling room at home in Eyemouth (TD14 5TG) which offers wheelchair access and easy parking and I can also offer appointments in Galashiels (TD1) on request.
