Richard Cruz
I am an integrative trained couples and psychosexual therapist working in private practice in Worcester Park, Surrey and the NHS. I’m currently working towards COSRT accreditation (The College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists).
They say you can’t separate the couple’s relationship from their sex life. One seems to be a barometer of the other. Counselling can be a very effective way of addressing stuck patterns between partners. Couples find that stresses such as becoming parents, imbalanced desires, communication problems, anger among others, begin to gnaw away at the quality of the relationship. It is my task to provide a safe place in which to air views and get equal time to speak and to be heard. Expectations and natural differences that somehow brought people together in the beginning tend to get buried unless they are talked about thus building up resentment over time. Feelings get bottled up causing cycles of discontent and it is my aim to help the couple see and make sense of limiting non-negotiating areas and try out new ways of being safely.
Who is psychosexual therapy for?
More and more individuals and couples are struggling to make sense of sexual issues in their relationships. Factors may have evolved over time or have recently impacted the relationship such as a sexual disorder like premature ejaculation in men or vaginismus in women, addictions, bereavement, abuse, the arrival of children, an 'affair', infertility, the list is long...what is important for couples and individuals to understand is that sexual problems happen in response to something and are NOT usually located solely in the genitals! Some of the issues I aim to help include:
- General breakdown in a couple’s sexual relationship
- Loss of sexual desire
- Painful intercourse
- Difficulties with orgasm
- Arousal disorders
- Erectile dysfunction
- Premature or delayed ejaculation
- Infertility and psychosexual problems
How do I work?
Psychosexual therapy treats the causes as well as the symptoms. Sessions will give you the opportunity to explore why a problem may have arisen. Where appropriate I may offer a specific treatment programme to help you overcome the difficulties you are having.
